Lao Cai, North Vietnam-West, Vietnam
It would be a pretty long walk, I imagine, from the train station to the Chinese border. We took a motorcycle taxi. Quick, cheap, convenient.
Sa Pa, North Vietnam-West, Vietnam
It's a bit touristy in Sapa these days, but its still a good place to base yourself for a few days. Explore some of the nearby villages, hire a moped for a few dollars a day and drive up into the mountain passes. You also get some stunning views of Fansipan (the highest peak in Indochina) if the weather is good.
Ninh Binh, Vietnam
In Minh Binh, THE thing to do is go and visit ´Halong Bay on the rice paddies´. In a rowboat you are pedalled around to see amazing beauty. However, before you arive to the main starting point, where there are fixed prices for the visit, you will come across some freelancers trying to convince you to do the same visit with them: do so! These people will tell you a lot, will not bother you to buy stuff, and will not charge you as much. At the same time you will be suporting the local economy!!!!
Ha Noi, North Vietnam, Vietnam
Enjoy two-hour cyclo tour through the Old Quarters of Hanoi to experience the bustling, real lifestyle and business of the Quarter.
Ho Chi Minh City, South-East Vietnam, Vietnam
being driven around in vietnam is the most crazy experience...we went to mui ne a 3-4 hour drive and it was insane!! four cars driving side by side on a two lane road!!! driving anywhere between 40 and 120k!!! Then theres the fact that the cars are on the wrong side of the road and the driver on the wrong side of the car!! Scary actually scary enough you don't need a theme park just go for a day trip...lol
Da Lat, Central Vietnam, Vietnam
A Dalat, trouvez un easyrider de confiance et partez ensuite à l'assaut des hauts plateaux!
Chau Doc, Mekong Delta, Vietnam
A trip on the Mekong to the fish farms is a smelly but quite interesting experience. We found the place to be quite special with a strong "at the end of the world" feeling and still quite some infrastructure for backpackers. Everything is EXTREMLY cheap.
Hue, Central Vietnam, Vietnam
Motorbike taxi is a cheap and easy way to get around, you can find them almost everywhere but if you are looking for a recommendation then try the corner of Hung Vung street and Tran Cao and look for Mr. Dung. I was travel on my on and I had an amazing time in Hue, thanks a lot to Mr Dung. Rest assure that he will show you everything around, will offer you for history lessons and will go and extra mile for your wishes.... :)HuéFormer capital of the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty, the royal city of Hué is situated on the country's central coast, midway between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It is a serene place, a small city of canals boasting splendid historical sights, and is dominated by its massive Citadel, and the former Forbidden Purple City. Most of its beautiful imperial architecture was destroyed during the 1968 Tet Offensive, when the North Vietnamese launched an attack on the south, yet despite a tumultuous history it retains much of its cultural identity and has been recognized as a Cultural World Heritage Site.Hué is also an important center for Buddhism and hundreds of temples and pagodas exist around the city, such as the Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the most famous structures in the country. The Perfume River lies between the city and the remains of the mighty Citadel with many attractions along its banks. Sampan boat trips on the river offer an enchanting way to see the main sights in and around Hué, including the splendid tombs of the Nguyen emperors a few miles south of the city.

Taxi to and from the Airport

The easiest way to get from the airport into town is by taxi. The airport is located 35km from the city and the ride takes about 45 minutes to an hour. A taxi into the city generally costs between $10 and $12 US. Settle on the price with your driver prior to departure and also determine if you are responsible for the $2 US toll at the bridge. There is also a bus service that is much cheaper, it runs between 5 am and 9 pm but it can take considerably longer than a taxi service.

If you make a reservation at a guesthouse or hotel prior to arriving in Hanoi most will arrange to have a driver waiting for you at the airport if your provide your flight information at the time of booking. Some hotels will provide the taxi service for free, but most of them will charge you for the ride. Just check with your hotel at the time of booking to determine their policy. If the taxi ride isn’t included check, likely you will pay the fee directly to your guesthouse NOT to the driver, so again confirm with your hotel.
