Virgin Islands

The US Virgin Islands offers much to the vacationer in search of a relaxing stay. A shopping haven due to its duty free status, there are also a number of casinos for those feeling lucky. The main islands include St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. St. Thomas boasts a number of beautiful sandy beaches, of which Magen’s Bay is considered by the National Geographic Society to be one of the “Ten most beautiful beaches in the world.” All around the Virgin Islands are prime diving and snorkeling destinations, where encounters with turtles, sting rays, and the occasional barracuda is not uncommon. Other water activities, from boat tours to windsurfing and fishing are also abundant. Ashore, bike tours take you throughout the island, or if you prefer, simply a round of golf is readily accessible. The US Virgin Islands are a popular destination for many celebrities, and it is possible to drive by or sail by numerous properties while out and about.

I have been on several snorkeling excursions and this beach beat them all. It's only a few dollars for a mask and snorkel. The locals also pass out dog bones for you to feed the fish with. The fish swim up right in..

Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands
One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I got to experience this paradise with my wife, which made it even more special. The snorkeling was fantastic and the night life was pure fun. I hope to return..

When you arrive in port, take a taxi to Morningstar Beach. It was one of my favorite beaches and it also has a nice outdoor restaurant centrally located if you are hungry. I only went to Magen's Bay once, but it is also nice. There is also a great restaurant that serves burgers, salads and a lot of other stuff. I can't remember what it is called, but it is literally a block forward when you step off of a cruise ship in port. Keep in mind though that if you eat anywhere in St. Thomas, you need to be prepared to wait. They are in no hurry at all.

Teagues Bay, Virgin Islands
Low key. You are lookng at the eastern most golf course in the USA. You can dine al fresco at Duggans ... the fish and lobster are ALWAYS fresh if Frank Duggan says they are. Most seafood is delivered fresh daily. Great little deli at teh entrance to The Reef (funky 1960's development ... an early adopter on St. Croix). Nice beach next to Duggan's and they serve cold beer all day. Duggan's is casual and elegant at the same time ... shorts to linen jackets and dresses can be can be seen but something in the middle is more common. For a truly elegant evening, go up the hill to Villa Madeline for true island splendor from the top of the mountain overlooking Teague Bay. And everything is walking distance though you might want to driv up the hill as walking home in the dark could be lethal. Enjoy.

Lots of stores here that you see everywhere in the Caribbean. But the H. Stern Outlet -- it's one of a kind and has gorgeous gems and gold.

Cruz Bay, Virgin Islands
Ah the Virgin Islands! Cruz Bay is the point of arrival when taking a ferry from St. Thomas to St. John island. You can rent cars here, grab local transpo, check out hotel bars and restaurants, and do some gift shopping... but its really a stopping off point to get supplies before heading out into the pristine environment of the island to do great snorkelling, diving, and camping.

Stay away from the American merchants.... Had an American guide take us diving and he almost got us killed. It was all about him catching dinner. We opted for the American versus a local because we thought we would be in better hands. What a misconceptions. Like other resort type islands, american are not very much liked because they take but give back little. Stick with locals and reap the benefits. Great dive right off shore. 500 foot wall full of sea life. Great night dive. but that is about it. Very little to do other than dive and explore the island.

St. Thomas is by far the most beautiful of the virgin islands although it is hard to choose. If you go make sure to do the sky ride, go to Coki Beach, and try to go parasailing.
