Travel Tips from people who've been to Charlotte Amalie
When you arrive in port, take a taxi to Morningstar Beach. It was one of my favorite beaches and it also has a nice outdoor restaurant centrally located if you are hungry. I only went to Magen's Bay once, but it is also nice. There is also a great restaurant that serves burgers, salads and a lot of other stuff. I can't remember what it is called, but it is literally a block forward when you step off of a cruise ship in port. Keep in mind though that if you eat anywhere in St. Thomas, you need to be prepared to wait. They are in no hurry at all. Good tip? (+1) If you love shopping this is the place to go. Dronnigens Gade, the main street is home to many of the shops. You will find amazing deals on just about anything imported, Especially perfumes, so much so you can find perfumes for up to 40 dollars cheaper than on a cruise ship or in Canada. Avoid Magens bay, it is nice but very crowded and the sand is not very white. Take a walk around Downtown Charlotte Amalie if you love history and little boutiques, this area is the original town founded by the danish over 300 years ago. Follow the back paths, all of the people are friendly and you never know what you will find, They may lead you to the king's residence or to a 250 year old mall. My best advise is to take it slow and take in this island because it is one amazing gem. Good tip? (0) Stay safe and keep around the rest of the tourists. Don't go where the locals go to eat unless it's at nice restaurant & DO NOT walk around by yourself. DO NOT wear expensive clothing or you'll stick out like a sore thumb. The locals seemed more financially desperate here as opposed to the other islands we went to visit. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Charlotte Amalie
