Wallis and Futuna

These friendly French and Roman Catholic influenced islands are beautiful and uncomplicated. It is not your typical club med vacation and the tourist infrastructure is light. The islands are located in the south pacific between Fiji and the Samoas, comprising Wallis and the Hoorn islands of Futuna and Alofi.  Alofi is uninhabited, allowing much of the habitat to remain well preserved. Most of the other islands are well cultivated and numerous tropical fruit species including breadfruit, pineapples and mangos abound. The region has no venomous creatures, but boasts a number of interesting animals and amphibians, including some species of geckos, tortoises, a flying fox and the rare Blue crowned Lorikeet. Pigs, which were introduced to the area, can be seen. Within the lagoons that surround the islands, a number of multicoloured fish, dolphins and rays can also make their home in this tropical slice of the world.
