Famous for adventure tourism, this sub Saharan country also shares the beautiful Victoria Falls with neighbouring Zambia. From walking safaris to canoeing, whitewater rafting to bungee jumping, adrenaline junkies will find more than enough excitement to fill their days. Zimbabwe is located on high plateaus which include beautiful mountain ranges like Chimanimani, one of the few ranges where hikers can travel unaccompanied in the country. Other memorable experiences include visiting Hwange, Zimbabwe’s largest National Game Park, home of the rare wild dog, or the Ruined city of Great Zimbabwe, the largest ancient monument south of the Sahara. This impressive stone complex demonstrates the sophistication of an ancient 12th-15th century civilization. In Zimbabwe, you can also try wild game meat dishes of impala and warthog, or local cuisines such as bota and sadza. Whatever you want to try and discover, this affordable destination has experiences awaiting. Unfortunately the present political environment is suffering from a crooked dictatorship (President un-elect Mogabe) that has held power for way too long, resulting in a terrible famine, a subsequently desperate and terrorized population that is regularly displaced as homes are bulldozed at the whim of generals. Anti-Western, particularly anti-White sentiments result from government propaganda which blames the country's woes on the rest of the world. At the moment Zimbabwe is a destination for seasoned, street smart, politically savvy travelers.
