**low season discounts for walk in Doubles** ***problems booking online? please contact us directly as we are having issues with online availability*** Lao is a home; not a factory hostel. Just 24 beds keep things friendly, chilled and clean; Lao is a traveller's oasis in the middle of a great city. A social, lively home, not a party hostel! The house is located in a busy corner of Mendoza within 15 minutes walk of everything so it's ideal for getting to know Mendoza on foot. A five minute walk from the hostel passing local deli's and restaurants will get you to the Main Street. Continue on from here to reach plazas España or Independencia and the pedestrian streets. 10 minutes in the other direction and you are in the bus station. Infront of the hostel you will find buses to the wine districts. If you want to get off the Gringo Trail just ask us for directions. Our home is a 70 year old town house that we have renovated to create 2 six bed dorms with a bathroom each and a 4 bed ensuit dorm. All equipped with aircon/heaters, a large locker per person, real mattresses, comfy pillows and duvets for winter. Dorms you can sleep well in. Next we converted the former servant's quarters into 2 cosy doubles sharing a bathroom. Set in the stunning hostel garden surrounded by tropical trees and hammocks, these rooms are ideal for some privacy away from the house. Please note the pool house is not ariconditioned. Finally we opened 2 luxury doubles so couples can enjoy the social atmosphere of a hostel with the comforts of boutique hotel rooms, La Cava and Tango. Lao also has 2 large comfortable lounges, a wine celler, a fully equipped kitchen, dinning room, terrace, 2 friendly dogs to play with, a plunge pool, great included breakfast and we serve some free wine! Did we mention the beautiful garden and hammocks? Our home is the perfect place from which to enjoy the Mendozan winter; with heaters in all the rooms, a log fire, duvets, and transport to the slopes!

Getting there:
To walk from the bus station we recommend leaving the Terminal via the underpasses and walking up Allem Street for three blocks before turning left into Rioja Street. After two blocks you will find the Hostel on the left hand side;
Or you can take a taxi which should cost no more than AR$8. From the airport, we are a 20/25 minute taxi ride.

Apr 3, 2010 superb place. mike, the owner, contrary to the other review on this page, is from DERBYSHIRE, not sure how that makes him a "london geezer"?!! friendly, chilled, clean, homely, the doubles are excellent and the dorms comfortable with good sized lockers and open doors so no one can lock themselves in and steal everything; which seems to work as there was none of the usual hostel theft issues here. but then this really isn´t a hostel. more of a home full of interesting people who aren´t just getting hammered. the staff offer great tour info but if you dont want to do a tour they will happily tell you how to do things on the cheap and reccomend local places. they even know your name! the hostel location if perfect for me. not in the middle of gringolandia(where most of the big hostels are) so you can actually meet locals when you step out the front door. they aslo do great asados, mike really knows his way around the grill. and his wife celeste had her mum make fresh pasta one night with slow cooked beef and sauce which was to die for. a unique place that defies big business and the factory hostels/HI chains that are taking over hostelling. Go here and enjoy something real. nearly forgot, to alexander K; how lame is it to be stealing wine from decent people who open their home up and are nothing but nice. You are the reason why most hostels keep everything locked. and to put it in your reviews like it´s something to be proud of. pathetic. Jun 8, 2008 Best hostel I've ever stayed in, Mike is a bit of a London geezer, but not a scum bag by any means. His wife to be was a lovely lady, and ASTOR the German Shepherd is the greatest host in all Argentina. They'll sell you beer all night, the asado is awful, you can sleep in the hammocks and they don't even mind you sneaking down into the wine cellar when they're not looking... I think!
