Welcome! 'Bienvenidos' to Hostel Revolution - a friendly, small & cozy owner-operated Backpacker hostel in Historical Quito.

We are located on the northern edge of the beautiful Historical Center of Quito near Alameda Park, easy walking distance to all the main attractions. Explore the cobbled streets, plazas, museums, parks and courtyards and soak up the traditional atmosphere. The historical center has recently been revigorated as a result of a massive restoration process.

HR is in a colonial type house with wooden floors and decorative plaster ceilings. We have a rooftop terrace with great views, ample clean & modern bathrooms and common area/bar.

HR is also the home of Matt and Maria, an Australian/Ecuadorian couple who own and operate the business. We have a small dog, Shakira who likes to think she owns the house too! HR is not a rowdy party hostel but a small capacity (18 person), chilled hostel for people of all ages, which provides a comfortable base to visit the historical center. Customer service and guest information is our priority.

Some example of places to visit include:
Alameda Park & the observatory - both recently renovated and restored - 1 block away
Basilica - climb the towers! 10 minutes walk
Itchimbia park - best views! 10 minute walk uphill
Plaza San Blas - 5 minute walk
Plaza Grande - 15 minute walk
Plaza del Teatro - 10 minute walk
Plaza Santo Domingo - 20 minute walk
Plaza San Francisco - 25 minute walk

Old Military hospital - recently restored and now a museum - 15 minute walk
Old Eugenio Espejo Hospital - recently restored and now an events center - 5 minute walk
Central Market - try local dishes and seafood, cheap! 10 minute walk

Getting there:
When we receive your hostelworld booking we will email with links to map and photos of hostel to find us easily. Look for the sign 'Revolution Backpackers' . HR is also on both sides of the balcony.

Getting from the Airport
Taxi ranks with official yellow cabs are out the front of the arrival lounge. You need to negotiate a price as the taxis do not use their meters from the airport (around $7-8).

You can also buy a prepaid ticket from the taxi booth, Once you agree on the price we are about 20-30 minutes away (depending on the traffic). It is also possible to catch the metro bus to the Parque Alameda stop, though we recommend a taxi at night or when the bus is busy for security reasons.

Local Bus
We are one block from the Ecovia bus stop at Alameda Park. The new ecovia has a dedicated lane which allows for quick and cheap transport from the north to the south of Quito (25c) along 6 de deciembre (Mariscal is just 5 minutes away). Also a few minutes walk is the trolley bus system, similar to the ecovia, it runs north to south in quito valley along 10 de Agosto. The Metro Bus, additionally, is very close and runs along Avenida America west of the trolley all the way to the airport and the interchange for the equator line, mitud del mundo.

National Bus
There are now (from July 2009) TWO main bus terminals in Quito, one in the North (Carcelen) and one in the South (Quitumbe) Quitumbe is just under an hour in the trolley bus to the Alameda stop near the Hostel. You need to take the trolley to El Recreo, and then change bus to get to Alameda. From the Carcelen station, take a bus to La Y trolley stop and then take the trolley to Alameda stop.
