Housed in a renovated hotel, the HI-San Francisco Downtown Hostel has all the modern-day comforts you've come to expect. The hostel offers both private rooms and dorm rooms, with a MAXIMUM OF 4 BEDS PER DORM. Lockers are available in each room, and many rooms come with their own private bathrooms. Free linen and towel service, as well as daily housekeeping, are included, and laundry facilities are available on site.
FREE CONTINENTAL BREAKFASTS are provided every morning, and a guest kitchen is available for self-service meals. The guest lounges are newly renovated, and the hostel boasts a brand new THEATER-STYLE MEDIA ROOM with wide-screen, satellite TV, and two movie screenings nightly. High-speed Internet facilities and FREE WIFI are also available.

Along with the cable cars, the hostel is close to other public transit -- 1 block from major MUNI bus lines and 3 blocks from BART trains which run to/from the San Francisco International Airport and the Oakland International Airport.

FROM THE AIRPORT
From San Francisco Int'l Airport (SFO), take a BART train to the Powell Street station. From Oakland Int'l Airport (OAK), take the AirBART shuttle bus, and then a BART train to the Powell Street Station.
Walk 2 blocks north on Powell, turn left on O'Farrell Street, then turn right on Mason Street. The hostel is on the righthand side.
By airport shuttle: From San Francisco Int'l Airport, Lorrie's Airport Service offers a discounted rate of $13 per person. From Oakland Int'l Airport, Super Shuttle service is available but reservations are recommended.
FROM THE AMTRAK TRAIN STATION
From the Oakland or Emeryville stations, take an Amtrak shuttle bus to the Ferry Building (at Mission Street and the Embarcadero). Take a MUNI Metro train from the Embarcadero station (near the Ferry Building) to the Powell Street station.
Walk 2 blocks north on Powell, turn left on O'Farrell Street, then turn right on Mason Street. The hostel is on the righthand side.
FROM THE TRANBAY/GREYHOUND TERMINAL
Take MUNI bus #38 from the Transbay Terminal to the Geary/Powell stop. Walk 1 block west on Geary, and turn left on Mason Street. The hostel is on the lefthand side.
BY CAR
From Van Ness Avenue, drive east on Post Street. Turn right on Mason Street. The hostel is two blocks down, on the left side of the street.
There is an unloading zone in front of the hostel entrance; when you arrive, the hostel staff can direct you to nearby long-term parking.

Everything you need in accomodations: clean, comfortable, safe and secure; all the basics are taken care of, activities are offered, and you are in the heart of San Francisco! Close to everything, the HI-San Francisco-Downtown Union Square location is a place to which I return whenever I am in SF.... and coming from a local (I grew up here) who understands her options with hotels, friends, and family, I have to say this is by far my favorite spot in the city.
