Excellent place to visit for the adventurous backpacker. One of many sites that must be visited is 'the peak', you can either hike up the mountain which takes around one hour from the centre of the city - be warned its a strenuous hike. If you prefer to relax and enjoy the scenery the lazy way - you can take the tram that goes all the way to the top for a small fee. If you feel like spending a little energy then my advice would be take the tram up then walk down. Hong Kong has alot of history which my intrigue you. The reason Hong kong is very bilingual is due to the United Kingdom occupying the Island in the first opium war. Those backpackers without deep pockets will need to seek accomodation on Kowloon 'mainland China', as prices range from $120 - $700 on the Island.

Get the transport from the airport to the city. Buy an Octopus card if you r there from more than a day. I still have a lot to explore in HK, but the avenue of the star is my favorite. A lot of shops, restaurant malls (HK island Kowloon island). I really like HK coz I LOVE shopping...
