Not broke as such, but nice burn across my wrist from a hot coal
The thing I always forget:
I don't!
Travel inconveniences I could do without:
Thankfully travelling chills me out
When not traveling I'm:
Making the most of living in London 8-)

I'm me!? And my friends would agree with that! Things that stand out are that I got the travel bug back in 97 and have managed a couple of trips a year since to out of the way places ... see map! Hmm, do I like Africa?! I'm interested in wildlife and conservation and my trips often lean that way but visited many so called developing countries. Visiting these places helps to put things into perspective ... and it's a wonderful thing to do! It may even lessen my cynicism!!! 8-) My biggest trips have been when I managed to take a sabbatical and I headed off to South Africa for 12 weeks; 8 weeks on a conservation course and 4 weeks just travelling from PE to Cape Town. I even received my pass certificate from FGASA - Field Guides Assosiation of Southern Africa. It's only for Level 1 theory and not the practical (not enough time), but it's nice to have. My other big trip is when I resigned from work and took a career break. For this I crossed Russia by rail in 30 days and then worked my way down/across China for by rail and river for 30 days. I finished up at Macau and Hong Kong before heading back home to London. I'm now back to working and 'normal' holidays! Well semi normal ... I went to Antarctica in Nov 2008 via the Falklands and South Georgia and this summer I am off to the Arctic via Svalbard and three weeks to the Galapagos in March 2010. Other activities I've done include: I got my PADI open water back in 2002 and will get round to doing more. Will try most things and have skied, parachute jumped, abseiled, zipped wired through rainforest canopies and have white water rafted several times in warmer climes, cold water isn't appealing! I also like walking but don't do as much of it as I'd like to. I even ended up on a horse in SA and also sat on a bike for the first time in years. Despite the sore behind I really should get myself a bike and get out there again! I'm a big music fan and go out to the Academy, Koko, Empire, Water Rats and Hoxton Square bar amongst others on a regular basis with friends; music tastes vary from indie, dance, world, rock and back. I must be getting older too as the frequency of theatre trips is increasing!! Especially enjoy the Fringe so often go to the Soho Theatre in Dean Street, Tricycle and Bush theatres.I also like films and eating out at interesting little places around town with friends. I guess I have come to the conclusion it's better to work to live, than live to work. And that although I take some things seriously ... that doesn't include myself all the time 8-) I also like photography and can occasionally take some good photos according to friends! Pictures from some of my travels can be found at My Flickr Site http://www.flickr.com/photos/wanderlustg/
The range of meat on offer depends on what is available so don't expect all types of bush meat all of the time. I was there on New Years Eve in 2004 so I'm not sure if the following is a typical night's fare but we had King Prawns wrapped in smoked salmon, tomato & saffron consume, plum & champagne sorbet, ox, eland, ostrich, lamb, spicy sausage, quails, chicken wings, chicken, barbecued pork ribs, crocodile, chicken livers, chicken gizzards, lamb cutlets, pork. At this point we knocked the flag down to say no more, but managed a slice of tropical fruit gateau and a coffee
A good place to try local African food. The meal I had, see photo, consisted of rape, nshima, mopani worms, Kapenta and ground nuts, all washed down with chibuku (seven day old beer)
Fantastic place. I was here back in May 2006 and Maryna and Charles are great hosts. They also offer a shuttle service if you require it. I took advantage of this one day to visit Monkeyland, Birds of Eden and the Elephant Sanctuary; and another day to Robberg Peninsula. The place was spotless and I couldn't fault it. The bar is a nice place to relax and you can even braai in the fireplace. You can now also order a cheats pimms as well as I gave Maryna the recipe!
Great profile - love your story! Thanks for adding me as a friend. Im off to Peru soon - only 3 weeks, but im all excited about the project (eye testing in amazonas and norh peru). I appreciate the chance to use my degree for something else than selling gucci glasses in Norway ;) Did a similar project on Madagascar in 1999 and loved it. Well - hope you get to know you better - have a great eve!
