Easter Island on a budget.
Thanks to a new route with LAN, it is now possible to fly from Lima to Easter Island direct. Promotional fares start from as little as £180 return, a bargain considering that flights from Santiago are usually a LOT more. Once on the island you can stay at the cheap but wonderful Camping Mihinoa, which has dorms, private rooms as well as tents for hire (for as little as US$12 per day including sleeping bag and mattress). The camping has a huge kitchen and showers with hot water and is very clean and pleasant and located just by the sea, a dream! To avoid buying the extremely expensive and limited food that is available on the island, you’d better bring your own from the continent (fresh fruit, veg, dairy products and meat are not allowed though). That way you can have a cheap holiday on the earth’s most remote island!
