Capital of China and host of 2008 olympics.  It caters for english speaking tourists relatively well with most restaurants having English menus. Very cheap, but the rest of China is way cheaper, there is higher quality items and more variety and plenty to see and do.  Most tours, especially the summer palace and Great Wall are very popular and all hostels and hotels will be able to book them for you.
