Maseru TipsTip on : Maseru - 3 years ago
If you are travelling alone or as a couple or threesome don't stop anywhere in this town. It is dangerous if you are a "white" man. You could be targeted and followed and high-jacked. If you are in a big group, still be cacious and only stop here if you REALLY have to. Rather stop in the smaller villages. Maseru is not a safe place. The rural areas , the people work the land and work hard, they are loving and friendly. Please don't give sweets to the kids. Rather take old clothes with you on the trip and hand these out, or tinned foods. Basutu people have a hard life, but they are amazing people. They will capture your heart if you allow them to. Stick to the rural areas, and enjoy. If you go in winter, expect to see a lot of snow, and maybe even plan an extra day incase you can't get through to your destination due to heavy snowfalls. Asmatics - don't forget your pump. The air is very thin.Good tip?

![]() Duane R. says: Feb 17, 2010 having spent the last 5 years traveling in Lesotho, spending many a day in Maseru, it is as safe as anywhere in the world I have never had a problem and find the people to be very friendly and open to all who visit WHITE or not. Was this useful? (0) ![]() Ruth R. says: Jun 18, 2008 Maseru may not be safe for those who have no wits about them, but if you familiar with travelling in Africa or South America even, and be sensible and keep your wits about you, you need not fear MAseru. It can be a useful place to restock on supplies, while travelling through a country that has few resupply points. That said, there really isn't much to do or see in Maseru anyway - the spirit of the Lesotho is really in the rural areas. Was this useful? (0) Other Tips in Maseru
