Midway Island Tips

Midway is all but overrun with albatross--they're loud and territorial, so be sure to bring earplugs if you're planning to sleep, and keep those fingers tucked away.  Also, resist the temptation to re-enact the Monty Python "Albatross!" bit - believe me, the locals have heard it.

I lived on Midway from 1973-1974. I loved it there and have tons of memories. My greatest wish on earth is to visit there again. My husband, Christopher "Tappy" Tappero was the Coast Guard liason on Midway to Kure Island, 1/2 mile wide and 1/4 mile long, roughly about 1/2 the size of Midway. I just learned today, 16 Aug 2009 that Chris is terminally ill. This is not a joke. I would give most anything to return to Midway and find the peace that I long for. It will be all that I have left of him and what better way to remember his life. Yes, once upon a time, my 'horse' did throw me as I tried to avoid the goonie birds and the winds.
