Grytviken, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
This is a barren and abandoned old whaling station...the wildlife is not usually scared of humans and you can get some really good photo opportunities..except the reindeer..can't get near them....very cold too....

Graham Land, Antarctica
Graham Land is on the Antarctic peninsula. Fabulous icebergs, whale watching, comical penguins, seals, sea lions, albatrosses, etc. If you do an Antarctic trip, do it on a small expidetion ship because you get to more places than the big cruise ships. We did two landings a day, but the big ships only do a couple of landings during the whole trip because they can't get to the small areas. Port Lockroy is great, you can send yourself, and friends and family, a postcard from there, because there is a post office and a shop! It's great to get a postcard from the remotest place on Earth when you get home! The Drake Passage can be very rough, take some good seasickness pills!

Antarctica: get here anyway you can. There are loads of expedition vessels that do trips out of Argentina. I would recommend it to anyone! Truly a special experience.

Antarctica
On that Antarctic Peninsula, or nearby islands such as the South Shetlands, you'll see penguins everywhere! If you want to get some great photos, then you need to get down to a lower perspective and take some pictures from ground level...either at the bottom of some hill or by lying down on your stomach.

Antarctica
One of the weirdest, but most exciting things to try in Antarctica is to dig a little "hot tub" along the shores of Deception Island. There are usually some hot pockets of water created from volcanic activity at this crater shaped island.

Antarctica
The two most important clothing items to bring are 1 - big rubber boots that you can hike around in and 2 - extra gloves / mitts as they will get wet for sure. Anything else is just normal winter stuff like a waterproof jacket, fleece shirt, extra socks...but the gloves and boots are primo importante!
