Yerevan is a great place to visit. The people are very hospitible. The Congress Hotel is a great alternative to the Marriott for Western lodging, and the on-site pool area and restaurant are great. The Bellaggio is a great place to eat, and be sure to experience the great gardens and cafe spots around the opera house. Must have khorovatz (barbque, usually pork) with lavash (local handmade flatbread), sold everywhere. Food is great overall with strong Mediterranean, Persian, and Russian influences.

Be sure and go to the supermarket and buy a pig's stomach full of wine, as you cannot get that anywhere else ;) They would not let me take a coke bottle of homewine on the plane, so.....

Tiny town between Yerevan, the capital of Armenia and its Zvartnots Airport. The most delicious tomatoes :-) come from this place.

Arzni, Central Armenia, Armenia
Health SPAs dating back to 1950s can be found in Arzni - all still operational. The mineral water of Arzni is known for its positive effect on patients with heart problems. If you like rock climbing or hiking, the canyon is excellent for that.

Yerevan is such a beautiful city. You feel like you are back in Ancient times when you are in the city and you have the magnificant view of Ararat Mountain. I found myself constantly in the outdoor cafe's just relaxing, reading a book and enjoying the scenery. Truly a beautiful settting as it is surrounded from virtually all sides by mountains.

Yerevan has a hip cafe culture. You can't go a block without hitting two or three cafes. It's great to pass away the time sitting in a cafe sipping brandy and watching people walking along with their families.

Airport is about 15-20 minutes away from downtown Yerevan. While driving downtown you'll pass a road with a full of neon-lights. This is the gambling part of Yerevan.
Local currency is called dram (abbr. AMD). HSBC i well represented in Yerevan, hence not to big problems using ATM's.
The food is generally really good, and the local stuff is great. And it's not that expensive. But beware: You get way over what you can eat.
