It sounds funny, but go to Darwin in the "suicide season" (summer) as hotels are cheap, tourist attractions are uncluttered, the seedier characters stay off the streets, and Kakadu looks awesome at that time of year!

there is a lake north-east to tennant creek. cool water, trees, breeze... stop for a swim. it is worth it. but it is not allowed to sleep over there and there r rangers that takes care people will listen to it... we were asked kindly to leave

Well i got stranded there for 2 weeks, and got annoyed with it there. when i finally come to the day of leaving i had to pay $1500 on my bloody jeep. Gutted.

stay away from the wet season

Darwin would be the most beautilful place other than my home town it is like a country town everyboby is so nice and layed back

The caravan park in the north east of the town is ok to stay in!

Toute personne qui n'aime pas la beuverie, l'absence de culture, perdre son temps ou qui ne veut pas aller se perdre dans un trou paumé et qui connait un meilleure moyen d'accéder au Kakadu national park...doit s'abstenir d'aller à Darwin...

Stayed there for a couple of days till some truck driver picked me up to drop me off in Roper Bar (150 miles east in the middle of Arnhems land). Should be one of the health rsort places in Australia with geysers and sulphur baths etc... didnt see them, but i think they are there somewhere. Maybe a place to stop if you pass it on your way to darwin or alice, but if you dont - dont go there.

I loved the Alice more than I expected. The highlight for me was the helicopter ride...DO IT!!
