Perth is a very expensive town to visit, so be prepared! A great day trip is the wineries around Margaret River. There was a bit of problems with the Aborinigies when I stayed closer to the town center.

Sometimes getting a taxi in Perth can take a very long time (especially if its raining). I waited in a queue for 2 hours waiting for taxis. I ended up sharing one with 3 other people. I would receommend a rental car for Perth, its not as easy to negotiate as Melbourne via public transport. It would have give you the opportunity to drive to the beaches a bit farther from the city.

perth can be a hard place to navigate as it is spread out across a big distance. basically places of interest can be cut into two places: fremantle and perth proper. the commute from perth to fremantle (freo) is a big one, so plan your sightseeing strategically.
