Perth is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Without a doubt, the shopping, atomosphere, and restaraunts are centrally located and they are easily accessible by foot. The only downfall is expensive parking.

Nice to spend a day or two with bycicle on Rottnest island, see King's park and travel to Pinnacles desert. For backpackers it's really nice to sleep in Coolibah lodge -small and cosy.

For great views of the city, take a picnic lunch to King's Park. Beautiful gardens and walkways, plus concerts and movie nights are held regularly in the warmer months.

Many Perth hotels are located in the Central Business District. Although this area is getting better after hours, many travellers to the city can be a bit perplexed about the lack of activity after business hours. For the best nightlife and restaurants, check out inner city suburbs for nicer scenes, for example, Oxford St in Leederville, Hay St/Rokeby Road in Subiaco, Beaufort St in Mount Lawley and the Fremantle strip.

When you visit King's Park, don't miss the DNA tower. It's sort of off on it's own, I wouldn't have know it was there if my best friend who's a Perth native didn't take me. Great views of the city.

If you're heading out at night in Australia and are under the age of about 30 (or 35 if you look young) make sure you take ID.  Australian security are unbelievably strict on checking people are over 18 before they are allowed in and will only accept an Australian drivers licence, a proof of age card from the state that you are in or a passport as proof of ID.  So I'm afraid for the internationals that means taking your passport out at night.  The chances of getting in without it though are slim- I'm 28 now and still can't get into nightclubs in Perth without ID!

Perth lacks tourist 'destinations'. Aim to enjoy the lifestyle.

People here are very friendly. If you're lost, just ask a local and don't be surprised if they take you to a pub instead of your original destination. Be open and have a good time.
