Go down the back alleys and enjoys the beautifully carved doors in the gallery district. There's a fine Viking themed restaurant in the area too.

everyone should go see the bridge from bahrain to saudi arabia, its not even that far away from al manamah. the bridge is gorgeus.

Be warned, if you go to Manama during Ramadan, you'll need to get up before dawn if you want to eat!! You may find, as I did, some Pakistani/Indian-run small supermarkets where you may be able to get something basic, like bananas!

Not much of a travel tip, but there is a bar frequents by American military men, which is rather good, i would recommend going there for drinks and food.

Stay away from the area right outside the base... get downtown to the souqs...good deals to be had...get a shwarma from a street vendor!
