Travel Tips - Food & RestaurantsDangriga, Stann Creek, Belize What an awesome town! Be sure to take a trip south to Hopkins to see the Swinging Armadillo Hammock lounge - the best hammock hang-up anywhere. It's a short trip out to the cayes from here, and the snorkeling is great. But be forewarned - a lot of people in Belize, especially in smaller towns, are not morning people. Many don't even get up before noon, so finding breakfast can be hard. Pack some food! Good tip? (+1) Orange Walk, Northern Belize, Belize Orange Walk Town is a must destination for Northern Belize - and you should see Northern Belize. Skip the tourist areas and see the country!
This is a great town with a lot to see. Between the Banquitas House of Culture and the shopping along the Corozal Road, there is plenty to do for a day or three. It is also a great stepping off point for Laminai, Corozal, Progresso and other places.
Stay at the St. Christopher on Main Street. Avoid the hotels on Victoria Street (the Corozal Road). Eat breakfast in the square from on of the carts. Dinner on Victoria - try the salbutes or you can always have Chinese! The locals are friendly and easygoing. Keep you money close and you'll have no problems. Good tip? (0) Ambergris Cay, Belize City, Belize Had a great time here. Try Fido's for seafood and also Mango's down the road. I also love the Johnny Cakes that you can get on the streets. Good tip? (0) Independence, Stann Creek, Belize independence is okay, but the real place to be is accross the bay in placentia. friendly people and relaxing atmosphere. lacking in tourists as well. Good tip? (0) Belize City, Belize City, Belize Belize has only 4 major highways leading out from Belize City. Belize, the entire country mind you, has only four stop lights. The fifth one was blown down by a hurricane! I am very serious. The roads are very small, so the larger vehicle gets the right of way. My wife and I traveled the Western Highway. The locals were very nice, but the street vendors can be very annoying. Make sure you check out the Wet Lizard in the Tourist village, if you went there on a cruise ship. I also endorse the Belikin beer which they brew just outside of Belize city. Good tip? (0) Cay Corker, Belize City, Belize Wish Willies is the best place to eat, chill, and watch the sunset from his rooftop! Afterwards head down to the Split... everything closes at midnight but if you stick around the locals may give you a ride over to other islands... one of which is completely deserted except for a kick ass rasta bar in the middle... a night you won't forget!! Good tip? (0) Caye Corker, Belize City, Belize I'm pretty sure its really called Caye Caulker but this is the only listing they had. Stayed here for a weekend a couple of years ago so i don't know how much has changed. We arrived on a boat not knowing where to go and found a place called "Toms Hotel" Very simple, two story building, almost looks boarded up and closed. Very nice, clean rooms available for cheap . There were about twenty of us so I think we took up the whole hotel. After being in the jungle for a month this place was like heaven! Small town but very different feeling from the rest of the country. Beautiful! Good snorkling. Eat at Rasta Pasta. Good tip? (0) Ambergris Cay, Belize City, Belize Bes french fries I've ever had! Every place we ate on this island they were so delicous! The food at Bite on the Beach is especially tasty, would highly reccommend it. Good tip? Good tip? (0) San Pedro, Belize City, Belize San Pedro might be one of the coolest little towns I've ever been to. It's very poor; but the people are really nice. I suggest making conversation with any of the store owners or farmers walking along its roads. You may have to know Spanish; but surprisingly many of them speak a bit of English. For essential San Pedro Dining go to Elvis's. They floors are sand, the drinks are all natural and the food is quality. If you're in San Pedro it's most likely you're there for the diving. Dive as much as you possibly can (but still being safe) because it's some of the best diving along the Caribbean coast of Central America. Good tip? (0) |
