The Lord Elgin hotel is in the heart of downtown right on the canal about 3 blocks from Parliament. A very central location for enjoying the area. The Lord Elgin diner which is about 6 blocks down Elgin from the hotel is a great breakfast or late night spot. You must try the poutine. It's basically fries with gravy cheese curd. The perfect drunk or hungover food and it remarkably goes well with eggs. If you're ito winter activities, go in February when they have their winter festival. There's skating on the canal, ice sculpting, and a ton of other activities going on. It's cold, but it's not horrible, and it's generally beautiful and sunny.

The one thing worth eating in Ottawa (and that which we are known for) are beaver tails. The name may sound odd, but they are AMAZING on a cold winter day. I recommend the nutella + sugar topping :)

Ottawa might not be the most exciting city in Canada, like Whistler, but the beauty and tranquility make up for that! Make sure you go on a hike at Mud Lake. If you have yougn children, you can catch and release frogs and turtles. Definitly look into the hiking trails. They are not dificult. If you want chalenging, go to the Rockies! they are beautful too! If you are interested in the Parliment Buildings and you are Canadian, then you can e-mail your member of Parliment and ask for a tour. Ok, you might not be a VIP but you might be a Semi-Important Person. If you happen to be down by the University of Ottawa, try to eat breakfast at a Restaurant called Father and Sons. It is a pub at night, but in the morning, it is just filled with University Students eating and some studying. All the museums are wonderful. Kids will enjoy the nature museum and the Science and tech museum. The war museum is also worth a visit. Sometimes plays are on, you can buy tickets online. Downtown is a nice place to be. There might be a few beggars but they won't annoy you. If you need more info, you can write a letter to me on my facebook account. Enjoy Ottawa! Oh! And the taxis can be really dirty! They can smell bad too. Not all though!
