Zagreb is my home city, so I can tell only best about it. Here, you can do everything: there are interesting museum and sights, beautiful nature in the city center (park Zrinjevac, but there is also Maksimir, in which you feel like you are in a forest, and it's only 15 minutes with a car or a tram from the centre...), interesting culture events (cest is d'best), and everything you want. Food are fabulos, there are some really good hotels, lots of hospitals. If you are in Zagreb during summer, take clothes like you are going in Africa and an umbrella, and if you go in Zagreb during winer, tke warm clothes. And, of course, you have to go to Millenuim to try the best ice-cream ever!

The centre of Zagreb is split into a lower and upper section. All the major attractions are close by to the main square near a tram stop. There is a 'railway' called the 'Old Lady of Zagreb' which takes you to the upper level and back. The ride lasts about a minute and it's cheap to go on. You can walk up the hill but it's fun to take the ride at least once. St Marks Church is at the top and its tiled roof with national emblems is good to look at. There are museums nearby including one containing the broken remains of furniture destroyed during the Balkans War. Croats are very passionate about their country, and a night at a bar watching the football is a rowdy experience! I also visited the KSet club on the outskirts of the city, which was a good experience, and cheap prices.

Zagreb the city that is surprising! Watch out for the painted lines that restrict you from driving in certain lanes, as well as the traffic signs for parking. The police are very astute , and your car will be towed, if you park wrong. Westin Hotel is my pick for comfort, but the restaurants need to be upgraded as they have not been since 1995. Nightlife is great, with a few good pubs ( Bulldog ) on the walking street. Aquarius for a nice place to dance.

Most of the hotels in Zagreb are overpriced, but if you have a car, hotel Stella is a really nice choice - very clean, nice staff and the parking is free of charge. The room rate is about 100 euros at the reception, if you book a room by internet is cheaper. The location is outside the city.

This is Zagreb from student perspective:
cheap, great for nightlife, clubs are working until 4 or 5. Different kind of music in every club, from Serbian to Indian :) Hostels are cheap. Zagreb is not to big city as London or Paris, but it has a lot to offer ;)
