Al Uqsur, Nile Valley, Egypt When in Luxor a visit to Karnak Temple is highly recommended. An enjoyable method of transportation to the site is by boat rather than a car. The rates are about the same and the boat operator will usually wait and bring you back, or return to bring you back at a set hour. Good tip? (0) Al Uqsur, Nile Valley, Egypt When taking a "Luxor ferrari" (aka horse-drawn carriage), make sure to pick one with a healthy looking horse. Many are overworked and underfed, and choosing a healthy horse should reward the owner for taking care of it correctly. Good tip? (0) Al Uqsur, Nile Valley, Egypt This may sound obvious, but be careful not to go sightseeing at Luxor or Karnak temples in the daytime. It gets extremely hot and there is little shade and NO air conditioning. Make your exploration early in the morning or late in the afternoon to ensure your comfort. Good tip? (0) Al Uqsur, Nile Valley, Egypt Luxor.. a place you should see for yourself. It is really worth it. though pick a good season because I was there in Juin and it was 50.C at that moment! Good tip? (0) Al Uqsur, Nile Valley, Egypt The market is quite nice but very touristic. The shop owners are terribly annoing and they don't want to understand "no". It's pretty save for women to go on their own but try to avoid more quiet places after dawn... Always be careful in the pedestrian area along the Nile. Gangs of pickpockets are just waiting for their chance. If you're interested in culture, don't miss the tempel and the museum. Good tip? (0) Al Uqsur, Nile Valley, Egypt Appearance isn't everything but it sure can keep you out of trouble sometimes!
-keep in mind the local general appearance and religions, there are no set rules but dressing so that you cover your midrif, arms and legs not only shows your respect but also stops you standing out like a tourist (tourists = easy cash)
-women traveling alone might want to wear a wedding band! The same applies for lesbian couples. To locals in Al Uqsur it marks you as a more respectable individual so you will be hecaled less...... I say LESS but theres no quaranty. I promise the sites are worth it so don't be discouraged ladies! If your bothered, try to laugh it off and cover your laugh with your left hand. Flash that bling!
-If you really want the best out of your trip I advise you get a guide (they know all the tricks of the trade and will savvy you past those loooooong queues in the blazing sun) but ONLY GET A COMPANY GUIDE!! Larger hotels will have offices for holiday makers like Thomas Cook and the like, they will get you in touch will trust worthy guides, it really makes a difference and gives you a better introduction to the everyday life of Al Uqsur Good tip? Good tip? Good tip? (0) |
