The Santa hotel is one of the nicest hotels in the city. The Hotel restaurant serves the best reindeer stew I've ever eaten. When you enjoy dinner over their don't forget the desserts, the typical suomi desserts are heavenly. Only 10 km north of the city, on the polar circle, you'll find Santa Village with his own Post office where letters from all over the world arrive daily. You can see all the elves writing a personal letter back to everyone who has sent a letter to Santa Claus.

Go to Santa's Office an write all your X-Mas Cards there. It doesn't matter when you're there, they get deliverd just short before Christmas. You can also visit Santa himself, he speaks all languages in the world - at least he knows how to say HI in the most common ones.

When you are in Rovaniemi you need to visit the Santa Clauses Village. I think it is a really nice place for children and adults who behave like these ;-) You can visit Santa Clause and can meet Rudolph the rednosed reindeer.

Woong and I spent a week in northern Finland summer 2005. It was so beautiful. Rovaniemi is a great place to begin with. We got an overnight train there and then rented a car to drive to our rented cottage in Kaaresuvanto on the border with Sweden. We spent the week trekking and enjoying the sights and nature. It was well worth it. Would definitely recommend finding a nice cottage as a base from which to explore. Coming back to a warm fire and sauna every evening sure made the trip that much better.

most known for Santa Claus ;-) yeap, I checked it and he really has his place there, with plenty of little elfs around, santa post and trillions of letters from children all around the world. We were traveling by car, but if u take a train it costs quite much as all trains in Finland are expensive, good idea to rent a cottage as we did in Kemijarvi (a bit north) so its cheaper like that and much more interesting forest life ;-)) but a hostel in Rovaniemi seemed also ok
