(0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Load up on 1 pound bottles of French wine and take it back to England. Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Booze Cruise ahoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Just blink, and let the scenery past! This is largely a port location and really nothing significant to see - save time and keep going down the road! Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France nice wee town, very busy as this is a ferry terminal to dover Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France A truely horrible place- full of english peole coming over for the afternoon to cram their vehicles to the roof with cheap alcohol... stay away Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Don't visit in winter, unless you're prepared for grey drear. When I visited Calais it was to go to the hypermarket with the people I was staying with, so I can contest that there's good shopping there, despite not knowing much about the actual town! Also, when I went, a small sandstorm was whipping along the (ugly, cabin-lined) beach, so we couldn't see the cliffs of Dover. Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Drink some wine before, departing to England, last time you can drink good quality, easy accessable wine. Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France Calais, an interesting city on the coast of Northern France. You really can see the white cliffs of Dover and it really seems close enough to swim. Sadly Calais is a shopping district for the Brits who swarm over and buy wine, beer, clothing in large quantities to take back into England. The medieval part of town has been wiped out, only the Flemish town hall and a tower on one of the gates still stands. Very touristy. Good tip? (0) Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France I lived a few years in Calais, and I cannot say that the city center is the best place I've seen. Although there are a few old buildings to look at, most have been wiped out during the war. However, the beach is great, and during the summer I would recommend it. I would even recommend to walk on the beach from Calais to Sangatte. Food Restaurants, the l'Aquar'aile is a great restaurant along the beach. It is clearly not the cheapest one but with a wonderful seesight and a great menu it would suit the best "gastronome". If you're lucky enough, you may even see Dover's cliffs from your table.
