We were only here for a bit when our train arrived from Paris - not much to see and the car rental guy spoke NO english at all and they lost our reservation! After my French quiz, we managed to get out ok and make our way to Le Rayol-Canadel

Toulon lies on the south coast of France and is extremely warm and cosy when during the summer. A sun hat and sunscreen is a must to prevent sunburn. The food, countryside and people are rustic but due to the sun, everybody is calm, relaxed and easy going.

Toulon... nicht gerade die Hochburg des Nachtlebens. Auch wenn wir etwas außerhalb gewohnt haben. Dafür kann man tagsüber wunderbar am Meer entspannen und auch diverse sportliche Aktivitäten werden geboten. Das Schöne an der Sache ist, dass die Strände nicht einfach nur geradeaus gehen, sondern dass man gleich vor Toulon eine Halbinsel findet, die zum Erkunden einlädt. Unterkünfte gibts genügend in allen Preisklassen, auch Ferienwohnungen. Mit den Einheimischen ins Gespräch zu kommen ist nicht so einfach, zumal sie einen ziemlich starken französischen Akzent sprechen. Hilfsbereit sind sie aber allemal.

Toulon ( Provençal Occitan : Tolon in classical norm or Touloun in Mistralian norm) is a city in southern France and a large military harbour on the Mediterranean coast, with a major French naval base. Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur région , Toulon is the préfecture (capital) of the Var département , in the former province of Provence .

Toulon is een mooie stad op een half uur van Marseille. Op architecturaal vlak loont het zeker de moeite om door de straten te dwalen. Ook de haven is zeker een bezoek waard. Of er verder veel te beleven valt in Toulon is voor mij voorlopig nog de vraag. De toeristische dienst geraakte niet verder dan ons het strand aan te raden als bezienswaardigheid voor een dag Toulon... Toulon werd door een van haar bewoners omschreven als "plouc-town", waar op cultureel vlak niet veel valt te beleven. Het tegendeel moet voorlopig nog bewezen worden. Dit zou een historische verklaring hebben doordat Toulon een stad is waar vooral veel militairen voor beperkte tijd verbleven (ifv de haven). Toulon: zelf te ontdekken en beoordelen.

I was completely blown away with La Seyne-sur-Mer! It was a beautiful part of France! My only grievance was with the roads, probably more so, with the directions I was given, but nonetheless, I would consider studying the map thoroughly before venturing out!
