Bayreuth is famous for it's "Richard Wagner Festspiele" taking place every year in August. It is hard to get tickets (waiting time of 6-8 years) but in 2008 they introduced a public viewing at the "Volksfestplatz" for about 15000 visitors.

You can easily get to Bayreuth via road and rail. Next international airport is Nuremberg which is about 80km to the South or 1 hour by train.
