Take the Mike's Bike tour - it's a great way to see the city. Also go to the Hofbahnhaus if only to see the women carry 10 enormous steins in each hand. If you plan to go to Austria after, the train trip from Munchen to Salzburg goes through some of the most beautiful countryside!

www.the-tent.com it was the coolest place we stayed in Europe! easy internet cafes offer the cheapest internet we could find and there is a good supermarket near the train station. Really cool to do a walking tour around the city. And don't miss the HOFBRAUHAUS!!!

If you're going to München (Munich), you have to take the time to travel out to see King Ludwig II's beautiful Schloß Neuschwanstein (New Swan Stone Castle). You can look at all the lovely pictures you want, but none of them do the place justice. The experience is breathtaking to say the least.

On the other hand, if you're staying in the city and want a day of sightseeing I would definitely suggest Mike's Bike Tour . The guides are humorous, knowledgeable and rather helpful. Watch out for the intermission though; riding a bike after a comfortable little break at a nice German beer garden is a tricky ordeal.

What can I say, Oktoberfest at the end of September is the most amazing experience. It is so much more than just an international festival known for large amounts of beer consumption. Oktoberfest is about the non-threatening camaraderie of sitting next to people from other countries, not understanding anything that they are saying, but sharing a large turkey drumstick and countless "Prost"s and drinking songs.

Munich is also a great walking city. Stay downtown near the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) and within a short distance are the main shopping area, Hofbrauhaus, Hard Rock Cafe, and the famous Glockenspiel (clock tower).

If you have some time and would like to take a break from drinking German beer, I would suggest going north towards the University up Leipoldstrasse to Sausalitos, a Mexican restaurant, at Türkenstrasse 50.
