best known for the palace with a beautiful garden, but better check out when the garden is the prettiest and full of all colourful flowers.

I highly recommend buying the city tour bus pass, it allows you access to most of the city and runs all day long. Find a site that sounds interesting and get off to look around (head-set provides descriptions as the bus approaches each site). Also, get used to using the subway, it's invaluable for getting around. I'm sure everyone says this, but I'll re-iterate that Checkpoint Charlie is a must-see. The museum is such a powerful reminder of the atrocities that took place on the other side of the wall and I was absolutely amazed by all the ways people escaped.

Nice town, very much to do and to be seen, so good shoes are essential. Lots of modern buildings, next to rests of the Roman empire. Lots of shops, but to me, the most important thing are the museums and the buildings. Not so much nightlife, and very hard to find payable parkingspace. It's better to park the car outside Trier (for free) and take the bus to the centre. Next to the Dom, you can find a winecellar where you can eat excellent at noon for only a few euros.

Bad Godesburg (or "Bad-G") is to Bonn, what the Upper East Side is to Manhattan. Nice restaurants and cafes by the Rhine, close to the main centre, but noticeably more tame, quiet, removed from rest of the city. There is a direct rail link though, so its not a problem getting between the two places

The bus from the airport (where Ryanair lifes in to) is 8 euro, they leave soon after the flights arrive so don't lag around, go straight out of the airport (there is nothing much to see in the airport anyway, it is tiny)

- Opera Theater - varied repertoire, fantastic singers, sometimes wacky costumes, always an enjoyable show! (the theater building itself was commissioned to be built by Hitler)
- Christmas Market, walking street, good shopping,
- Transport: has a train station, airport, and buses.
- Downside: Located in a heavily industrial area, some of which nearby resembles Mordor.
