Greenland, Greenland Greenland is beautiful. Huge Icebergs. The Innuit art is lovely. Innuit history is wonderful. Their houses are covered in turf for insulation. Very Eco Friendly. Good tip? (0) Nuuk, Vestgronland Region, Greenland Capital of Greenland, 15.000 people. Nothing special to see in the city... visit brættet where the hunters sell seal, fish, whale etc... Take a 2 days hike to the Cirkus lake and "Mt." (800 m) Big Malene. Good tip? (0) Greenland, Greenland Life is generally conducted at a more relaxed pace than is usual in northern Europe, as exemplified by the frequent use of the word immaqa – ‘maybe’. Until recently, foreign visitors were very rare. The name of the country in Greenlandic is Kalaallit Nunaat , meaning ‘Land of the People’. Photography: Throughout the country there is a ban on taking photographs inside churches or church halls during services. A UV or skylight filter and a lens shade should always be used. In winter, the camera must be polar-oiled. It is advisable to bring your own film. Film cannot always be developed in Greenland Good tip? (0) Narsarsuaq, Vestgronland Region, Greenland Must visit the innuit museum. i bought some innuit art greetings cards and have them framed in my front room. they look gorgeous. the roofs are covered in turf for eco friendly insulation. very sparsly populated. the children run to greet you as you come off ship, (this is a port). At the museum you can enter a reconstructed eskimo home. the history is amazing. Good tip? (0) Maniitsoq, Vestgronland Region, Greenland Take good shoes, go there in summer good oppertunities for tracking, sailing, fishing, you can find everything in stores or the most things you'll need. Or in winter you may wanna ski its not far from the town to the skiing places. You can also ski in summer jut take a short sail trip to Apussuit near Maniitsoq (Sukkertoppen).People there can be a bit shy just smile and say hi:) Good tip? (0) Nuuk, Vestgronland Region, Greenland Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, where the old and the new are united in a unique and dynamic way. These people are cousins to the Eskimos in Alaska. There you see alot of the northern lights, icebergs and... rocks. Good tip? (0) Qaqortoq, Vestgronland Region, Greenland One of the most off the track places that I wisited. If you expect museums, restorants, shops and monuments you are up to big disappointment. What you will se here is down to earth, no fuss very local life with one restaurant/bar/ 'inn place' (easy to recognize by the car sticking out of the first floor wall – very original). One tip for all of the fellow vegetarians do not even bother to find something to eat around here since everything consist of something that used to either walk or swim.
Even during the summer weather is cold but bareble. Would definetly recomend to visit if for nothing else but to see 'diferent kind of life'. Good tip? (0) Tasiilaq, Ostgronland Region, Greenland I got chased by a schizophrenic Eskimo with a dislocated shoulder around the mountain through the valley of "flowers"... Scary shit! And whatever you do, do NOT go to the bar - unless you want to risk knife fights or worse - being asked to sleep with someone's wife. Remember in Greenland the two endemic problems are alcoholism and syphilis! Good tip? (0) Kulusuk, Ostgronland Region, Greenland Great helicopter ride from Kulusuk to Ammassalik - when we left for the airport there was a massive wind storm - the helicopter was blowing to 90 degree angles perpendicular to the ocean below and the cliff next to us in succession - with four people stuffed against the glass in the back seat I just sat back and assumed it was like a roller coaster ride and the pilot being 60 must have known what he was doing to be alive having dealt with those Greenlandic weather conditions many times in the past - then it was fun! Good tip? (0) Sisimiut, Vestgronland Region, Greenland My Greenland favorite town. Lovely location at the Disco Bay with the most scenic hospital location that I have seen. Things to do: Fishing with the locals, go to the ice brea, go to the icecap, visit the museum and birthplace of Knud Rasmussen. Take AUL towards Nuuk for an unforgettable trip along the coast. Clearly a place to come back to... Good tip? (0) |
