New Delhi, Delhi & Surrounding Region, India Visit the Bar at Imperial Hotel - famous place where Nehru, Gandhi and other well known Indian had meeting relevant to the Independence of India... Good tip? (0) New Delhi, Delhi & Surrounding Region, India Great to hire your own taxi to take you around Good tip? (0) Delhi, Delhi & Surrounding Region, India When you're using the New Delhi train station make sure that you go to the International Tourist Bureau on the second floor (NOT the regular ticket stands on the main level or to any other "ticket office outside of the station). As soon as you start walking toward the station you are going to be bombarded with people trying to lure you away with all kinds of stories. The office hasn't closed/burned down/moved/spontaneously combusted, or any other excuse they may try to pull on you. Chances are good you'll want to believe people but most of them really just want to take advantage of you, and I heard some stories of people being led to another location and being robbed of everything they have (extreme case, I know, but it happens). The office should be open from 8am-8pm and there are usually a lot of lines, but they're very helpful in making sure you get to wherever you're heading! :) Good tip? There are money-changers and ATMs everywhere so you'll have no problem exchanging/withdrawing money as you need it. Good tip? (0) Delhi, Delhi & Surrounding Region, India Most airports in India have a pre-paid taxi booth where you give your destination, pay a fixed rate in advance and are then shown to your taxi for your onward journey. This is the most hassle-free and safe way to deal with arrival. Otherwise, be prepared for the huge throng of people Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; ; "Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} you’ll be greeted by all keen to get you in their taxi or part you from your luggage – so they can either charge you for carrying it or run off to their taxi with it and expect you to pay whatever fare they demand. Best bet – ignore the lot of them till you have a chance to catch your breath and think. There will never be a shortage of taxis. Say no firmly. If you want a porter to carry your bag then don’t let it out your hand until you’ve agreed the price! Best bet is to walk away and they will soon drop the price. Failing that, you’ll find almost all the same stuff in a million other places, so don’t buy at the first place you see it. Just get a feel for the price! As an example, I was quoted 3500R for a bed spread – I ended up paying 800R! This shows you the level to which prices are inflated. Good tip?
