Don't pay 900 rupees for a room on the first night (especially when it doesn't have a fan and its 40 degrees+). It's 400 rupees max.

For luxury try The Imperial, near Janpath - street market and bookshops. For those not wanting to spend so much, a GREAT option is The AUROBINDO ASHRAM....tell ricksaw or taxi to take you to Aurobindo Marg (address). For foreigners the accomodation is great - good, clean rooms, meals included in price and the Meditation Hall is so peaceful. It's better to contact them in advance but I found a room in February which is their busy time without having contacted them.

It's where you can get guesthouses and cheap hotels. There are many places to get henna and local sutffs for travellers. It's always crowded, hectic and FUN!!!

be careful of taxi drivers, especially when leaving the airport in the middle of the night. they'll use any excuse not to take you to the place you want to go. they'll invent a story like: "the new indian law on terrorism requires that you first register at the tourist office", or "this hotel is closed/full", or "this hotel is not reachable due to metro construction work", etc. it doesn't matter whether you booked in advance, they'll think of something. and instead they'll take you to a bussiness relative to sign you up for an expensive trip or hotel. their cunning is enormous and since you're probably exhausted they'll take advantage of your vulnarability.

The rich part of it is quite nice and beautiful, the not so rich part of it is more real India...busy and messy. IT can be very confusing to drive around Delhi, so...Don't! Food is cheap, lots of options for vegetarians. Great street markets. Lots of hotels near the train station, and they are affordable and not so bad.

please find a tourist info centre n get all the info bout the places u wanna visit .... n how much its gonna cost u .... coz if u dont find this .... u will be ripped of money very fast .... n yeah dont rely on the tour operators .... probably they will take u to all the good places but the real charm is in the small places .... u will get to see the real delhi culture .... i would say u go to old delhi, chandni chowk, lal kila.
yeah another thing to remember is that the locals will try to rip u of money .... i would say if u look like a bit dark or wheatish in complexion ... try n wear the indian clothes n ppl will know that u know this place ... but if u are a fair skinned person its gonna be real tough, especially in old delhi
another thing is fix the fare if ur takin the auto rickshaw to some place n then go where ever u wanna go .... never take a metered auto-rickshaw in delhi .... its not the same as mumbai .... fix the fare beforehand .... please
try n book a decent hotel .... i am not sayin like a hotel worth Rs. 10000 per day .... please thats a waste of money .... coz ur gonna be wanderin around delhi so much that u wouldnt be stayin in the hotel for so long .... so i would say go for a price limit of 2000 to 4000 per day fare .... in this money u can get a decent hotel at a nice location
try n interact wid the locals as in what u wanna do n where u wanna go .... but never give your stay details or phone no. if u dont know the person
if possible u can use the public transport .... but get the info from ur hotel before enterin ne public transport ....
if u keep these things in mind i suppose ur trip in delhi will be a nice one

Delhi and North Indian states: Best time to visit is March-April and September-November

In times of May-June, its seriously start to get hot and you must be careful with your eating habit.. eat less and drink a lot of water (mineral bottled purchased from a shop) and shikanji!!

In times of August-September, its very humid and hot. Better got routine medicines on like Diarrhea, vomiting and motion.
