I spent 2 weeks here for work and overall it's pretty Westernized. Still an amazing culture, but not a lot of time to really check out the sites. Botanical gardens aren't really what you'd expect, but good for a nice break from the office. Lots of shops selling scarfs and such for the ladies - be sure to let them do their whole pitch before buying or leaving, they appear to work hard at their selling tactics and be sure to haggle, you can always get a bargain. Don't forget you can't drink the water if you're coming from the US - even on your toothbrush!

Huge city where the richest live next the poorest. Bangalore is far from being "traditional" India. You won't find many touristic attractions there, you'll rather find big malls, nightlife places... And about that last one, be careful as everything have to close at 11pm (law). But after some time, you'll get to know what is open later...

Every time I go to Bangalore I have dinner at Lolita Paratha. They have many variations on Parathas which are like a flat cake with different fillings. They have a room with air conditioning. Stay away from the limonades, the water will not be good for your stomach

One cheap way of travelling around town is using a rickshaw. Always ask for the meter to be turned on and note the rickshaw number! The open frame of the rickshaw is good for sight seeing.

The ITC Sheraton offers a women only wing. While I did not feel unsafe and I had not requested a room in the wing, I was pleasantly surprised by it. The service is definitely tailored to fit women's needs.  The staff were very attentive and friendly.
