Very nice city, where everyone know each other. Kaunas is also the home town of George Maciunas, the father of Fluxus art. So don't forget to go the picture gallery, where a big part of the museum is dedicated to it.

Laisves Street is the main road of Kaunas where u can find shops, restaurants, clubs, banks,ecc... It's also very interesting and nice the Old Town

For resting a weary head ... youth hostels don't exist!

Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania and a former temporary capital. It is served by the freeways Via Baltica (E67) and Vilnius—Klaipėda (A1). Kaunas is located at the confluence of the two largest Lithuanian rivers, the Nemunas and the Neris, and near the Kaunas Reservoir, the largest body of water entirely in Lithuania.

When in Kaunas, be sure to visit the old town and the castle.
Other points of interest include a zoo, multiple parks, a botanic garden and Laisves alley in the center of town.

Personally I think Kaunas is nicer than Vilnius. It has this "homey" atmosphere, also some nice architecture and it's green :)))).

Nice and relatively cheap food in most of the local restaurants in the city centre. Absolutely beautiful pizza at MILANO, a pizzeria located inside an old style rather soviet-looking restaurant, A. Mickeviciaus Street.

Great new shopping centre open in city called Akropolis. Well worth a visit..www.akropolis.lt

I would generally advise against going out late, if you are a foreigner as it can get pretty dangerous.

Great eating traditions. Restaurant are, at the moment, cheap.
