Vilnius, Dzūkija (Southeastern Lithuania), Lithuania It easy to walk around the city center without any transportation. Even if it seems as a big, in reality it will take maximum 1 hour walking to cross the center.
And it's easier to take public transport while travelling from the bus/railway station than taxi - same time but very expensive Good tip? (0) Siauliai, Zemaitija (Lowlands), Lithuania siauliai is a nice small city but a big one for lithuania.
getting there or leave from there is quiet easy with the bus but to know wich one yoiu have to take, yoiu should better have a small dictionnary english/lithuanian... Good tip? (0) Kaunas, Sūduva or Suvalkija (Southern Lithuania), Lithuania I recommend you take the Zaliakalnis Funicular Railway up to the Church of the Resurrection. Take the lift to the roof of the church for great views over Kaunas on a good day. Good tip? (0) Vilnius, Dzūkija (Southeastern Lithuania), Lithuania Catch a trolleybus on the square in front of the main station, and you'll get easily into town. Be sure you get the right stop, otherwise it is a little hard to find the beautiful city center. Enjoy the classicist style of the cathedral, go by funicular to the hill behind to see the museum and the roofs of Vilnius. Afterwards walk back into the old town to enjoy narrow streets and baroque buildings. You'll see why this site is on Unesco's heritage list. On the other side of the old town you can find Uzupis, an odd semi-independent neighbourhood where artists live their own life. But be sure you finish this at last at 16:30, so you'll be at five in front of the presidential palace. It's not sure if you can see Mrs President to leave the palace, but soldiers march in front of the palace to lower the yellow-green-red national flags and raise another Lithuanian flag. If you have seen al this, you have had a quite good Vilnius experience! Do this on a sunny not too hot day and you'll enjoy even more! Good tip? (0) Vilnius, Dzūkija (Southeastern Lithuania), Lithuania Vilnius to Berlin on coach... delayed by 10 hours due to the snow in Poland... almost missed my flight from there... but thats the travel fun... not much of an alternative either with internationl trains a difficult proposition in the region and flights going awry in the winter too... Good tip? (0) Vilnius, Dzūkija (Southeastern Lithuania), Lithuania On route to Vilnius by coach from Germany or Poland, a cute stop is Marjampole on the southern Lithuanian border... take a stroll around the bus stop... its charming and quiet...
