Fes, Morocco get lost on the medina. they try to make us believe that we need a guide to go around the medina but it's not true. the only thing they will do is go around with you to the shops where you don't want to by carpets. The restaurants they advice are the most expensive ones. the best to do in fes is to get lost on the medina and try the most simple places to eat. if you can, choose an comfortable hotel because you will need it to rest from the hot and movement of the medina. when i was there i choose one of the less expensive hotels from the "Guide Routard" and can say that it was difficult not to have a clean and fresh room to rest. from my experience, the "Guide Routard" as better tips then the lonely planet, so, if ou can read in french, choose the french guide to go around marroco. don't forget the hammam but don't let those guys make you a massage, they are so violent that you can regret it to the rest of your stay in the country. Good tip? (+1) Fes, Morocco Ok, so Morrocco.. Generally for brave people, who don't have problem with the contact with different culture.. If you want to get there from Spain, better don't have see sickness- don't be sure that ferry-boat will do.. waves can be spactacular during the journey. Fes is definately worth seeing- if you are in Spain and want to learn something about Morrocco. But don't dare going there on your own, alone, without good guide.. If you enter old Fes' Medina without the guide, that's over.. Not only will you get lost after 10 minutes of walking among the small (incredible.. woow...) streets, but-- if you are pretty blond girl, just imagine... Hold your child's hand tightly, and it will be ok.. And the impression is amazing!! The time has stopped there in XVII century, and thay themselves say it has.. Great, great, great! Exotic, fabulous, a bit terriefying .. But take care;) Good tip? (0) Fes, Morocco In the Medina you have to be really carefull- go there with an official guide (150MAD per group). You can hire one in the new part of the city. Beware of "faux guides" (false guides). Good tip? (0) Fes, Morocco À visiter avec un guide de l’office du tourisme la médina. Good tip? (0) Fes, Morocco It's good to have local friends - I can recommend some :-) Otherwise you'll need to deal with 'fake tour-guides' who just want to get paid and, believe me, it's really difficult to get rid of them... Good tip? (0) Fes, Morocco Be careful when asking directions to anyone on the street, particularly in the Medina or ancient part of the city, (Marrakech, Fez, Tangier, etc) you may get more than you bargained for--a tour guide. This is not always as ambivalent as it seems. I found this out the hard way during one visit when asking for directions and unwarily fell into this trap. After following our guide around for 30 min to places I didn't ask to go, he wanted to be paid. I gave him some cash but he wanted more. I said that it was a fair gift. He demanded more and argued that guides get X amount of dirhams. I pointed out that he's not a lisenced guide. He indicated that he was willing to get loud; only after he realized that I'd fight before giving in did he leave, swearing at me as he went. Beware. Good tip? (0)
