If you're in amstardam and planning to sample the local culture. NEVER buy anythin on the street. in a city where sex and drugs are sold legally there's reasons why the people on the street are dodgy.

Amsterdam can't be beat! Just be careful in the coffeeshops, especially if all you want to buy is a coffee. Amsterdam is well known for its cannabis trade, and you may end up with more than you ordered if you enter one of the many 'coffeeshops' with a simple coffee and biscuits in mind.

If you decide to smoke wacky backy, watch yourself as you walk home at night, there are canals to your left and your right, if your wasted you will fall in.

don't buy shoos when you're high and wasted. I left a store with two right shoos. not very useful. .

Be very careful with cameras in the red light district! Many of the girls are under age and they have a very aggressive policy to keep cameras out!

Watch for bikes, especially when crossing streets etc. Most of the Dutch ride bikes in Amsterdam for transportation, and it can be confusing when you are walking around the city, especially if you have indulged in a bit of Amsterdam fun. It can also be fun to rent a bike while you are visiting, but make sure to lock it up when you aren't using it, as bike theft here is high.

For christ sake, do NOT act like a drunk tourist, in nighttime :D

Nice city anyway! I will never forget this trip

Avoid the small so called "supermarkets" near the hostels, or in the center. They tend to rip you off, they sell 3-4 even 5 times as more expensive then the local big supermarket AH.

If you want to buy safe, and still feel that you got money left in your pocket after a trip at the supermarket buy at Albert Heijn  (AH) supermarkets or Spaar only.

Amsterdam is my personal favourite city! the buildings in amsterdam are really nice and also the museums are great. you've got a lot of different museums (wax-museum, van gogh-museum, anne frank-museum, rembrandt-museum...) if you like coffee shops you will love amsterdam. in every little place you've got one and it's legal to smoke weed! but watch out...it's not allowed to smoke week AND drink alcohol in the same place! you have to do one or the other thing! you can meet in amsterdam a lot of different cultures and people and you can have great parties! amsterdam is also a nice place for gay or lesbian people! a lot of clubs and bars ar explicite for these sort of people! All in all...Amsterdam is one of the most interesting cities!!!
