Amsterdam is the greatest city (until I visited Toronto) in the whole wide world, according to me! It's nice and bustling, though quiet and soft. Maybe it reminds me of home - it's close to water, the pretty buildings and the street cars in the middle of the road. It seems like an old fashioned Stockholm! But Amsterdam comes alive in a whole different way at night. There's the Red Light District, but also just in the city, like Leidseplein or by the Central Station there's plenty of clubs, coffee shops, vending machines (for that drunken snack) and people out and about. It's busy and nice, I even walked home, for almost an hour and it felt safe and conforting. The people are friendly, you see English here and there, and I've even learned that Dutch is not that different from Swedish so I've been practicing and readin signs and menues, it's not going that bad!
If you want an all round experience, visit Amsterdam. There's culture, night life and history all in one. You'll never forget it and you'll always long back.

Amsterdam is my personal favourite city! the buildings in amsterdam are really nice and also the museums are great. you've got a lot of different museums (wax-museum, van gogh-museum, anne frank-museum, rembrandt-museum...) if you like coffee shops you will love amsterdam. in every little place you've got one and it's legal to smoke weed! but watch out...it's not allowed to smoke week AND drink alcohol in the same place! you have to do one or the other thing! you can meet in amsterdam a lot of different cultures and people and you can have great parties! amsterdam is also a nice place for gay or lesbian people! a lot of clubs and bars ar explicite for these sort of people! All in all...Amsterdam is one of the most interesting cities!!!

Amsterdam is one the places with the richest quantity of different foods, nationalities, shops...etc.
Basically, everyone is welcome, gay, non gay, white, yellow, orange, green or balck people, whoever!!!! :-) It is a very welcoming area. There is plenty freedom, but usually Hotels, hostels and other accommodations try to keep a drug-free environment (inside of the building, of course).
If you can find a good map, and get hold of a travel ticket, for the train or bus, you will be able to find many different activities, like museums (from Anne Frank to Heineken museum), the house of Descartes and such.
