Sight seeing by bike is most likely in Amsterdam. For fun nights there is an Ice-Bar located in the center of the city.

Don't bring your car into the city if you can avoid it. Getting around Amsterdam by car is usually slower than it is by bicycle or a tram or bus. And due to expensive fees, driving can also be quite costly as well. In the centre you will have to pay for parking from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. every day of the week and from 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sundays. Around centrum, fees decrease from 3,20 per hour to 1,70 per hour.

There are also safety issues associated with driving in the city. If you have a foreign license plate, you may be targeted by unscrupulous individuals. If you do decide to drive around the city, never skip paying the parking fee -- not even for five minutes. If you don't pay, you run the risk of getting the Wielklem -- a yellow wheel blocking device. You will have to pay 70 Euros to have it removed. If your car gets towed for any reason, it will cost you nearly 230 Euros to get your vehicle back and the process is rather time consuming.

The best way to explore the city is on the trams. Amsterdam has an excellent public transportation system. You can get an IAmsterdam card that lets you get on and off trams, busses, and trains for up to (I think) 3 days. It's a great way to save money.

Many visitors arriving at Schiphol Airport might get a bad first impression of the country, because of unfriendly taxi drivers that might also overcharge. I use taxis a lot when I travel to and from Schiphol airport and I can give you this tip: use an Amsterdam taxi company called Ambassador Taxis. You can get info at their website http://www.ambassadortaxiservices.nl . I am sure you will be satisfied as I always am. They have very helpful and friendly drivers. Their rates are very good. Don't take a chance with taxi's to and from Amsterdam. I have been 'taken for a ride' too many times before.
