Napier is the springboard for the Hawkes Bay wine region. You'll need to decide which areas to visit before you head off as there are so many cellar doors you'll run out of time for any favourites if you try to do them all. Gimblett Gravels is a personal favourite and is close to Napier township...

Like a run down south coast england riviera resort, but 30 years ago. The inhabitants "dine out" on stories of quakes, the damage, the survivors and the glories of last century. Short conversation then. Plagued by gangs.

Art Deco.... pretty interesting.
Napier Classic Sheepskin warehouse - still wear my booties.
Having a fire on a beach just south of the city... Great freedom camping spot. An abandoned car was torched there one night through. Made for some good entertainment.

Take a stroll down the massive beach, sit and have a drink in the pedestrianised area and take in the art deco buildings, probaby the best collective range of art deco outside of Miami. Attractive park with tall palms and flowers. Don't miss some of the impressive art deco buildings which are slighlty outside the town centre - get a map or check out the tourist information office.

Napier is a lovely city at the southern end of Hawkes Bay. The inner city was totally rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake and being situated on the ocean front a constant breeze blows through town. There are many places to eat and drink and there is are many places to grab a drink of three. Prices are more suitable for Auckland or Wellington, however a nice day out nevertheless.

Napier has some really nice Art Deco style houses. The whole city was destroyed but they tried to rebuilt the original houses.
