    Napier, North Island, New Zealand
Napier is a lovely city at the southern end of Hawkes Bay. The inner city was totally rebuilt after the 1931 earthquake and being situated on the ocean front a constant breeze blows through town. There are many places to eat and drink and there is are many places to grab a drink of three. Prices are more suitable for Auckland or Wellington, however a nice day out nevertheless.

    Napier, North Island, New Zealand
Arrive in February during the time of the Art Deco Festival.  It's enormous fun. Napier was destroyed by a quake and rebuilt art deco.  Beautiful city. You can take wine-tasting tours in Hawkes Bay, they're a must. Choose one and enjoy. Expect to swim somewhere else than Napier beach, it is unsafe.  Better to travel to Ocean beach or Waimarama.

    Taradale, North Island, New Zealand
Taradale is an Art Deco shopping area in the midst of a wine growing area. Wine tasting tours can be arranged in Napier. There is a large parkland area for picnics, kite flying and other outdoor activities. Some car parking is available on the main thoroughfare for access to the park. A children's play area is behind the shops. Recent events make it unsafe to walk alone through Taradale at night - as long as you are in a group you should be safe.
