The hub oil activities in the Niger Delta which accounts for about 90% of the national revenue.Due to the international nature of the activities there, nationals and expatriates from all over the world live there. There are state of the art facilities for living and relaxation. There are cultural diversities of the locals because many ethnic groups are represented. There are a lot of tourists' attractions in and around the city stretching to the creek of the Atlantic Ocean.Generally, the people are friendly and hospitable but in some places the youths express their unhappy with the government and multinational oil companies because of deprivation and poverty in spite of the oil wealth which come from there.

Port Harcourt used to be a pleasant city (some 20 years ago) but nowadays it is quite hectic and a bit dangerous (kidnappings in the Niger Delta).

The people of Port Harcourt which are the Ikwerre tribe are hard working people who are heavily enshrined in their local customs, especially by their way of engaging in traditional dances and music;you will mostly find them performing the tradition in funerals and traditonal occations like marriages and wrestling festivals. they are very accomodating that's the reason for the peace and conduciveness of the environment within the city.
