For cheap places to stay there are usually people around the train station offering rooms in private houses. You have to go to Wawel (pronounced Vavel) Castle. Some say this is the heart of Poland and it is the past seat of Polish Kings. There is also a Smok (Dragon) that lives in the tunnel underneath the castle. Two day trips you have to make are 1. Oswiencim (Aushwitz). You can take a train from the center of Krakow, to within a couple of hundred meters of the front gates. You cannot miss this testament to the horrors of the Nazis and genocide. 2. Wielizcka salt mines. This is another trip possible by the efficient Polish railway system. These salt mines have been in service for hundreds of years and are now a Unesco world heritage site. As the miners took the salt out they carved statues and even a cathedral into the caves. Really amazing. Don't forget to listen to the trumpter in the main square and to have a great time. Krakow is fantastic!

Best way to get about is public bus.
No-one is much fussed about paying for these, but if you feel inclined they are relatively cheap anyway 3 zloty for a one way fare.
Getting to the Salt Mines is easy - bus 204 - and works out half the price of a guided tour company.

Krakow in Poland is considered one of the most expensive cities - even bread has a price of gold compared to other Polish cities. Avoid overspending and try to get the best deals. If possible do your shopping well away from the city centre. On the other hand, Sukiennice and Krakow in general offer great possibilities of buying tourist merchandise for an unforgettable Polish experience.

The largest medieval city square in all of Europe, home to the third oldest university in Europe, and full of Bohemian cafes, trendy dance clubs, and just plain bars. Beer and vodka are readily available anywhere.

If you want to experience some really crazy night nife in Krakow, go visit Kitsh (15 Wielopole street) on weekend and just have fun. Cool music (80's 90's hits), cool entourage, cool people, cool drinks. And when you feel like changing place, there are three other really nice clubs in the same building (relax in Caryca, meet the past in Lubu-Dubu). The best place to spend the night in Krakow.
