A wonderful showcase of the old and new. The contrast from a ultra modern democratic Poland and the blandness of its communist history. Churches on most every block. All unique and beautiful. The city square (in old Warsaw) is picturesque and a great place to watch the people walk by. It is a custom of the locals to walk to town on Sundays. The old city square is a great place to eat and drink.

When I was visiting Warszawa in 2002 there were many small but nice markets selling cheap but surprisingly good quality clothes. Besides that Warszawa's old town is nicely renovated and defenitely worthwhile visiting. I remember the locals as very friendly people, but their English was not very good, but sometimes slightly better than my Polish, which is almost non-existant :-)
