Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania
is a funny city, with a huge and cheap nighlife. The city is grey because of all the buildings built during the communism, streets are not always safe but not so much dangerous, is not the most beautiful city in romania but u can stop to see one of the biggest building in the world. The cost of life is cheap with LEU the courrency. People are not always friendly, u hav to be safe, but i met some beautiful ones that made me change my mind a little. the transportation are very good and cheap, i paid more and less 7 euros monthly for underground that connect all the main districts. The food is cheap and good, if like soups and vegetables there are a lot of markets with fresh food.

Bucharest has many interesting sights and walking around is a good way to take them in for the most part ... check out the huge structure built by Romania's erstwhile dictator whose surface imprint is believed to be second only to the Pentagon ... visit the relatively new Romainian writer's museum with photos of several Romanian poets and authors ... stay at Villa 11 with the family-like atmosphere, reasonable prices and Stefan, Deborah and their children taking care of you... in the city be careful of pickpockets and vicious dogs (a major nuisance) ...

Pleasantly surprised! Wide spacious streets. Upsetting to see the homeless/poor kids inhaling their bags of glue at the train station :-(

When you visit Romania and you're oblivious to the Eastern European culture it's a nice place to start, if you're more experienced I suggest travelling into the mainland.

I travelled to Bucharest last year for work in early June. The temperatures were in the high 30's. Taxis are very cheap but make sure you get a price before you get into one. Food is very good especially from the big hotels and is very reasonably priced.

Bucharest has no tourism infrastructure at all, so any visitors should pre-plan their itinerary. The Parliamentary Palace is un-missable and definitely worth a visit, although tour guides can really alternate between the best and the worst. Not far away is Strada Lipscani, the heart of the historic district. The Romanian National History Museum suffers from an absence of exhibits but the Peasant Museum and the Village Museum have really excellent displays on traditional Romanian life. Finally, there are many beautiful parks in the otherwise grey city, and Cismigiu Park and Herastrau Park are both not to be missed!
