For the most part the citizens are pretty nice - However, check news listings about demonstrations especially near US Military bases. Demonstrations do tend to turn more violent then not. The city is very different then shoping in the US. Each part of town is basically set up to deal with one type of merchandise such as maintainance supplies in one section, clothing stores in another and electronics in another. Warning: There is a market to purchase electronic items and pirated movies. The movies are usually taped in movie theaters and definately not good quality as some people have said. I personally will say buyer beware. I would prefer to go to a legitamate store for these items. Pickpockets are severe in some parts of town. There use to be a clothing market and thousands of people are jammed together in a small area so beware of your money, purses and backpacks. This particular clothining market had a severe fire back in 2005 so I am not sure if they are back up and running. Food - Asian food is abundant as you would guess. Good luck on the food but I would honestly not trust the street vendors as they are not regulated for health and safety. American food is also available. Transporation: Beware when crossing streets as most motorists do not regard safety of others and it is common for motorists to ignore traffic signals and signs. Do not drive your own vehicle or rent a vehicle without insurance - A lot of motorists are not licensed nor insured. Hit and Runs are very common in Seoul. The best transporation is the underground subway system which is decent and very inexpensive.

Seoul is the capital city of South Korea. I've been this in this almost once a year to visit my friends, to have sightseeing and for relaxing.

Make sure when you're here that you book well in advance for the USO tour of Panmunjeom/JSA. This is a 3/4 day tour up to the border of North Korea at Panmunjeom that is really informative and interesting from a political and historical point of view. You also get to venture into North Korea - although only within the confines of a meeting room! Book in advance because the tours are usually full. Don't forget to bring money to buy some souveniers (piece of the old barbed wire fence was my favourite), and also some drinks, as the tunnel walk leaves you sweating at the end!

If you are into tae kwon Do- then please stop by my instructors school in Seoul- Jae Young Kim tae kwon do- I do not know the address but Grandmaster Kim is one of the top instructors in the world so his instructors there re world class

watch out for the college kids in the summer... the heat makes them crazy about hating americans!

The shopping in this city is amazing, there is a maze of underground shops that trace the subway lines, and make winter shopping comfortable, as they lead to the major department stores.

If you are moving to Seoul, bring a towel... they're not as easy to find as one might think, for not every store sells them, not even all the department stores sell them. I didn't speak any of the language when I fist arrived, and it took me two weeks to find a towel. For that two weeks, I was using t-shirts to dry with. My daily, epic quest was to find a towel. When I finally did, it was one of the greatest days of my life!
