Having lived in BCN for seven good years, i will need to focus on a few insider tips: 1. Go to Sarria: a former village now enclosed in upper Barcelona. Beautiful, relaxed, few tourists and great bars/restaurants including Bar Tomas, famed for its Patatas Bravas (and little else) 2. For nightlife amongst the locals (and not just the tourists and expats hanging around the old town) go to the area around Maria Cubi and Santalo 3. For a lovely walk overlooking my favourite town take a hike op the hills and walk on the Carretera de les Aigues (busy with locals on Sundays, but always bring your own water) or go for a longer walk in the Parc de Colserola straddling the hills 4. My favourite restaurants: Agua, Barceloneta, Ciudad Condal, La Polpa ... and sooooo many more 5. Summer festival: Grec

Pack up for the beach! I have found there to be a universal feel about beaches in most of europe- You can find hip-hop American music, beaded necklaces, beach bars, although in Torremolinos, for women, topless is the way to go.

Have lunch in the old port section of the city. There are great, family-run restaurants that serve amazingly fresh seafood and great paella! Also, the palace set on the cliffs is very pretty.

Run with the bulls on day one and dont get pushed off the course before the cannon fires. Enter the ring after the first herd but before the second or you will get locked out. Stay in the ring and dodge the bulls as long as possible, its the best buzz going.

Go to Palacio Real and for excellent pastries La Mallorquina at Puerta del Sol.

A fab place to go i loved it here but mind where you go and dont wear any expensive jewllery but just try to fit in! Speaking Spanish helps ....ha

I stayed with locals who took us to amazing restaurants that were so cheap! Try the Arroz Negro (paella with squid ink - surprisingly yummy). I loved the city - there was so much to see and it was so clean!
