make sure to give yourself at least a couple days to check out all the sights in the city, and at least 1-2 days for day trips... Toledo is a must-see (it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Segovia is another one you shouldn't miss. Toledo is only a 1/2 hr train ride (AVE...Spain's high speed train) from the center of Madrid. Go to the Puerta de Atocha station and get your tix. they leave pretty much every hr-every two hrs (depending on the day the time of the day). You can also get tix to Segovia that leave from Puerta de Atocha... that train ride is about an hr long.

This is the right place for cultural trips and museums (Toledo, Avila, Salamanca, Chinchón, Avila can be visited from Madrid). Nice place for shopping (try Calle Fuencarral). Nice place for nightlife and restaurants (try Chueca, the Gay quarter). Beware of pick pockets, specially in Sol area and the metro.

Madrid es una ciudad para disfrutarla al maximo, los taxis no son muy costosos, pero si quieres ahorrarte algo adicional usa el metro o el autobus que te llega a la mayoria de los sitios, en el centro hay muchos y variados sitios para comer y pasarla rico y muy cerca en el Paseo de la Castellana estan los museos mas emblematicos, si quieres salir de la ciudad a un paso de los museos esta la estacion de Atocha donde salen trenes a diferentes partes de España.

i recommend you going to the center of Madrid and having a look to Plaza Mayor.

PRADO MUSEUM : don't try to visit the museum in one day! After two hours you cannot possibly appreciate still more paintings. If you have little time, decide in advance what you want to see. If you want to see it all, plan 3 times 2 and a half hours.

Don't go see a bull fight if you will feel sorry for the bull.

Museo del Prado- It features one of the world's finest collections of European art, from the 12th century through to the early 19th century, based on the former Spanish Royal Collection. Famous for: Velazquez, Goya and El Greco works. I also saw Picasso's Guernica here but it has since been moved to Museo Reina Sofia.
