The Queen's Hotel has a great pool, but if you're looking for a more budget option there's a really relaxed place abut 2 mins walk from it called The Old Empire (can you spot the colonial influence here!?)  It's right by the Dhalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) and you're guaranteed to meet some cool people. fun times!

GO and see the cultural dance show - it's worth it for the fire dancing at the end, as well as what they can do with a simple little theatre and about 4 overhead lights...

Kandy is a place to see when visiting Sri Lanka and if the weather is rainy, don't worry, just wait for half hour drinking tea to one of the hotels around the center. A visit to the Botanical garden is a must for everyone. The Temple of the Tooth is a very interesting experience, be prepared to walk barefoot for quite some time. The local dances last far too long for me!

One of the most memorable experiences of my life was attending the annual Perahera in Kandy. The procession of elephants in all of their finery, mahoots with flaming torches under the starry Sri Lankan sky was magical. Don't miss it!

If you're in Kandy and go to visit the Temple of the Tooth relic, be prepared for higher security and larger crowds than most places in Sri Lanka. It can get very hot and very crowded in the viewing room in particular, where you'll be packed in with hundreds of others hoping to get a glimpse of the Relic if your visit happens to be during a viewing time.
